Rutland elected president of ORU

Dr. Mark Rutland was elected president of Oral Roberts University today by the university's board of trustees.

The courting of Dr. Rutland was covered on this blog on Monday (a link to a video of Rutland preaching at Brownsville Assembly in Florida is also provided. He preached at Gateway Church in Texas this month. The video of that sermon can be linked to here).

The announcement of Rutland's election can be read here on the ORU website. Southeastern University, where Rutland is currently president, announced on its website that he will remain its president until May 2. Southeastern University is an Assemblies of God school. Dr. Rutland said today that he will begin at ORU on July 1.

Mart Green, whose family bailed out the financially-strapped university in 2008 to the tune of $70 million, is the board chair. [UPDATE 1/30/09: The Greens announced on Thursday they are donating another $10 million to ORU ... and $10 million to Southeastern University. You can read the news story on the new donations here.] In the videos below he chronicles his family's involvement, as well as, ORU's road to recovery.
